Hosting My First Women's Tournament - Excited and Nervous! 🌸
Share
Hey Baddies,
It’s finally happening… I’m hosting my first-ever women’s tournament! I’m so excited (and honestly a little nervous), but this has been my dream—to create BIG and consistent opportunities for women in bowling. And this tournament? It’s a test. A test to see what women want, what they respond to, and what really matters to them.
Is it the bigger prize fund?
Is it the format?
Is the handicap system fair?
Do they prefer a one-day or two-day event?
Do they like bowling on a modified house shot?
Would they want a Friday night sweeper option for practice?
Would they rather have lower entry fees than higher prize funds?
Do they not care about handicap—or think it’s unfair?
Would they prefer scratch-only?
More games? More spots paid out?
Tougher patterns or more friendly ones?
These are all the questions I’m asking, and this tournament is how I’m going to find the answers.
As a bowler myself, I feel like I have a good idea of what women bowlers want—but I’m always learning. So here’s what I want:
🌸 Higher prize funds
🌸 All-women events
🌸 Competitive, challenging conditions (but not every time)
🌸 Inclusive formats that still reward skill
🌸 A strong sense of consistency and opportunity
🌸 Sponsorships and support for women’s bowling
🌸 To be surrounded by competitive, passionate bowlers
My long-term goals?
🌸A Women’s Amateur Tour
🌸 Mixed Doubles and Mixed Team Events (with a women-forward format—only 1–2 men per team)
🌸 Hard patterns and modified house shots—let's balance learning and enjoyment
🌸 Handicap caps (per player & per team)
Offering scratch divisions—but never excluding newer or lower-average bowlers
🌸 Hosting Youth Events with scholarship potential
🌸 Becoming a bowling brand that women are proud to wear and represent
I truly believe mixed events are an incredible way to showcase women’s talent, and I’ll definitely be running those too—but for now, this is the beginning. I’m proud, anxious, hopeful, and beyond excited to see where this goes.
I love this sport. I love competing. And I love seeing women compete.
Let’s make this the beginning of something amazing. 🖤🎳
With love and excitement,
Katey🌸
