AMARILLO DOUBLES TOURNAMENT <3
Share
Hey guys!
I was just in Amarillo, Texas at Eastridge Lanes for the Amarillo Doubles, hosted by Trey Sledge.
The format is:
➡️ 8 games of qualifying
➡️ Top 10 make the next day, and pins carry over
➡️ Everyone in the top 10 gets a check, and there’s a Calcutta (basically a side auction where you can “bid” on teams you think will win — fun extra money opportunity!).
Day 2 is:
➡️ 6 more games of qualifying
➡️ Then cut to top 5 for a one-game elimination step ladder until the winner is crowned!
➡️ There’s also an MVP prize for the top average over the 6 games on Sunday.
Last year, I bowled this with my boyfriend Brandon Carlson — a one-handed but no thumb lefty who literally averages 238 in all his leagues 😍 So needless to say, I had a pretty solid partner.
I liked the lanes a lot — they’re very playable! I averaged 220 for the 8 games, Brandon averaged 235, but we still missed the cut by around 60–80 pins (can't remember exactly). We were both like, how is the scoring pace this high?!
Well… this year, it was even higher.
To make the top 10, you had to be +591 as a team — that’s a 236 average each. 🤯 Absolutely wild!
My girl Elexis Sledge bowled amazing — she averaged 227 for the day and honestly crushed it, but she and her partner still missed the cut.
It made me really think: What’s the point? Are men just better than women?
Now don’t get me wrong — I am all about girl bowlers, and there have been plenty of times I’ve kept up or even out-averaged the guys! 💅 But at a tournament like this, you’ve got to average almost 236 to be in the mix.
Am I going to travel 9 hours and spend money for a chance to pop off a great set? I would love to! But it’s a tough expectation.
Will I be disappointed if I don't? Yes.
Do I have high expectations of myself? Absolutely.
Can I compete with the men? It depends.
In formats like this — long qualifying blocks, men burning up the lanes, their different rev rates and speeds creating crazy transitions — honestly, it’s a headache. 😅
But give me a different format?
➡️ Head-to-head elimination?
➡️ Bonus pins?
➡️ More strategy, less carry fest?
You bet your bottom dollar I will give them a run for their money! 💪
At the end of the day, men do tend to carry more than women. It’s just that simple.
And this brings me to the whole purpose of the Bowling Baddies Club.
I want to run tournaments! Let me have a piece of the pie!
Let the Bowling Baddies Club run women’s tournaments (and mixed too, because I love mixed tournaments!).
My whole reason is to bring women together: to compete, socialize, and make each other feel confident. 💖
We women bowlers have to stick together — and what better way than bowling and hanging out?!
So support my dream of hosting and sponsoring women’s tournaments we can all enjoy!
Love you guys!!
